As Storm Eowyn lashes the UK with powerful winds and dangerous conditions, a number of councils across the country have announced they will be closed on Friday.

The Met Office has issued a red weather warning for wind in several regions, with gusts expected to reach up to 100 mph in exposed coastal areas.

Storm Eowyn is causing widespread disruption, including dangerous driving conditions, power cuts, fallen trees on roads, and severe flooding risks along coastal areas.

Authorities warn the public to avoid travel, as fallen debris, large waves, and hazardous winds create significant risks to life.

Buildings and homes are at risk of damage, with roofs torn off and power lines brought down. In lieu of this, people are advised to stay at home.

Express.co.uk will update this list as more school closures are announced.

The Met Office has issued the following advice to people to stay safe during the storm:

  • Stay indoors: If possible, avoid going outside in dangerous weather conditions, as flying debris and high winds pose a significant risk.
  • Secure your property: Secure loose items outside your home, such as bins, garden furniture, and trampolines, to prevent them from being blown away.
  • Prepare for power cuts: Make sure you have essential items like torches, batteries, and a mobile phone power pack in case of power outages.
  • Avoid travel: Do not attempt to travel by road, as high winds, fallen trees, and other hazards make driving extremely dangerous.
  • Stay informed: Follow the latest updates from the Met Office and local authorities for further warnings and advice.

With Storm Éowyn continuing to bring chaotic weather across the UK, it is crucial to stay updated on weather conditions and heed advice from emergency services. Avoid unnecessary travel, ensure your home is secure, and take precautions to stay safe.
