Full list of flood warnings across UK as 70mph winds to batter Britain for 13 hours

There are hundreds of flood alerts and 48 flood warnings in place across the UK. The UK is still reeling from the fallout of Storm Gerrit which caused chaos across the country with floods and high winds.

Now parts of the UK have been put on high alert from the Government as flood alerts and warnings are slapped on areas the length and breadth of Britain.

There continues to be two Met Office severe weather warnings in place – one for rain which ends tomorrow (Tuesday, January 2) at 9pm and one for wind tomorrow which ends at the same time.

It said: “Following recent wet weather, further spells of rain, heavy in places are expected on Monday evening and overnight.

“Then after a brief gap, another spell of heavy rain is likely to spread northeastwards on Tuesday.

“The focus this evening and overnight will be across parts of southwest and southern England, south Wales and perhaps the Midlands. On Tuesday the focus for the heaviest rain is less clear-cut but perhaps more likely across parts of Wales, the Midlands towards eastern England and Yorkshire.”

It added: “Over the warning period, 15 to 30 mm rain is likely to fall fairly widely, with a few places seeing 35 to 50 mm.”

The Met Office said wind could cause travel disruption – with coastal areas winds are likely to gust towards 60 mph at times and a “lower likelihood of 70 mph gusts.”
