French prepare for Olympics by delivering 300,000 condoms to host city

One village, thousands of super fit people and a lot of spare time. This summer, thousands of athletes from around the world will stay in an Olympic Village for the duration of the 2024 Paris Olympics and Paralympics.

In preparation for the arrival of the world’s finest athletes, the director of both events Laurent Michaud said 300,000 condoms would be available to athletes living in the village – enough for each athlete to have sex 21 times.

Speaking to Sky News he said: “It’s a quantity that makes sure that everybody will have what they’re expecting and what they need. We’re going to have 14,250 residents, athletes and press officials over here, that are coming for this great event and to live an extraordinary experience here.

“We wanted to create some places where the athletes will feel very enthusiastic and comfortable so they can have some conversations, discussions and to share their core values about sports.

“So, we have made a village club with a lounge, with a sports bar with Coca-Cola, and no alcohol of course, but it’s going to be a great place so they can share their moment and environment here.”

Mr Michaud said there would be “no champagne in the village”, but they could have “all the champagne they want in Paris”.

Mr Michaud’s comments come as the build-up to the games continues with tickets selling out quickly for events around the French capital.

The festival of sport has proved popular with Britons who are buying more tickets than any other country outside of France.

Paris 2024 chief executive, Étienne Thobois, said: “Yes, Britain is the first market by far outside of France, with almost 500,000 tickets sold.

“We are very happy that Team GB is coming in force. And they will have great expectations. The British supporters are very close, it’s less than three hours away. London 2012 is still in the memories of everyone.

“It was an inspiring Games for us, too. We are more than happy to see the Brits come in force to cheer for the athletes of the world in Paris. We are looking forward to welcoming them to Paris. There are still tickets for the Olympics and Paralympics. We are waiting for you.”
