The Mets can’t catch a break.
Francisco Alvarez was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right meniscus tear a day after leaving Tuesday’s 10-2 win over the Tigers in the sixth inning following an uncomfortable swing.
Manager Carlos Mendoza said before Wednesday’s game that — “hopefully — Alvarez will return in 6-8 weeks, but cautioned there is no exact timeline for his return yet.

“Once they go in there, we’ll have a better understanding of what we’re dealing with,” Mendoza said. “All we know is we have to wait until they go in there and find what we got.”
Alvarez’s addition to the IL means the team is now without four starters, with Francisco Lindor, Luis Robert Jr. and Jorge Polanco already on the shelf.
Luis Torrens, who replaced Alvarez on Tuesday, was slated to be behind the plate again on Wednesday night.
