A high-profile figure from Fox News has made the dramatic decision to depart after an extensive stint with the broadcaster. Long-standing presenter Neil Cavuto is bidding farewell to the network following an impressive 28-year tenure.

Mediaite first broke the news last week that Cavuto, aged 66, is scheduled for his final appearance on December 19. According to a source who spoke to the outlet, Cavuto opted to leave after turning down what was described as a lucrative contract offer.

The reasons behind his reported refusal to accept the contract remain veiled in mystery despite his long service. Known for his journalistic integrity, Cavuto gained recognition in recent times for his candid critiques of then President-elect Donald Trump, drawing criticism from Trump himself, reports the Mirror.

Nonetheless, the informant underscored that Cavuto’s departure is unrelated to the criticisms faced from the former host of The Apprentice. The Daily Mail cites a statement from Fox News applauding Cavuto: “Neil Cavuto’s illustrious career has been a master class in journalism, and we’re extremely proud of his incredible 28-year run with FOX News Media.”

“His programs have defined business news and set the standard for the entire industry. We wish him a heartfelt farewell and all the best on his next chapter.”

Cavuto has faced significant health challenges; he underwent open heart surgery in 2016 and was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1997.

Additionally, Cavuto has been vocal against the persistent denials surrounding the Covid vaccine, particularly poignant given that he nearly lost his life to the virus during a second infection.

In a fiery rebuke dating back to September 2024, President-elect Trump slammed Neil Cavuto as ‘one of the WORST on television’ following Cavuto’s stance that Trump failed to hold his own in a debate against Vice President Kamala Harris. Taking to Truth Social, Trump didn’t hold back: “Neil Cavuto, Fox’s Lowest Rated Anchor, is one of the WORST on Television. I actually prefer the losers at CNN and MSDNC.”

Recall the turmoil in 2020 when Cavuto notoriously interrupted White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany mid-broadcast as she echoed Trump’s assertions of illicit voting, a move that sparked Tucker Carlson of Fox News to furiously decry it as ‘media censorship’.

Looking ahead, Fox said that a series of rotating anchors would take over from Cavuto until a new show was announced in the new year.
