Former NFL player Josh Mauro died from a drug overdose, according to the Maricopa County Medical Examiner.
A case status update, obtained by The California Post on Friday, shows investigators have determined the ex-Arizona Cardinals defensive end died from “acute combined fentanyl, cocaine, and ethanol intoxication.”
They deemed the manner of his death an accident.

Mauro’s family announced his death last month in a heartbreaking statement.
“With many tears and broken hearts, yet anchored in the unshakable certainty that our precious Josh Mauro is now healed and made new-living in the presence of the Lord—we humbly covet your prayers as our family walks through the devastating loss of our amazing son, brother, uncle, grandson and friend,” his father Greg Mauro wrote on Facebook.
