Shower screens become marked primarily due to hard water deposits, commonly referred to as limescale, and soap scum. These deposits can actually etch into the shower glass surface, leaving it to look perpetually grimy.
If you’re struggling to eliminate stubborn marks, cleaning fanatics have revealed their go-to products – with one item being mentioned again and again. Posting on the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook page, Lisa Evans penned: “I’m struggling with water marks and limescale on my shower screens. My parents used to have a spray and it worked great, but I can’t remember what it was. Any ideas?”
Over 80 people swamped the comments to offer their suggestions, and whilst there was an array of products recommended, one stood out above the rest.
Annika Karrison declared: “Viakal is the best. Forget everything else. I squirt a line across the top of my shower door and a line across the centre.
“Wearing gloves and using a damp cloth, I wipe the Viakal over the entire door. I then do the same to the side panels. I then rinse it off, starting with the first panel, and that’s it.
“Very satisfying to see the difference. I do this in my clients’ homes, and it always looks great.” Sami Hill penned: “I use Viakal with a dry cloth, it’s amazing.”
Julie Raine and Ruth Hudson both championed Viakal, declaring it’s the finest for combating limescale. Gwyneth Calderbank revealed that she applies Viakal before stepping into the shower and rinses it off whilst showering, achieving “perfect results”.
Viakal, which can be purchased for approximately £1.50 in most supermarkets, is a limescale remover and anti-watermark spray perfect for bathrooms.
It’s also suitable for surfaces such as chrome, stainless steel, ceramic, tiles and plastic, but should be used with care. Caution is advised when using Viakal, as it’s not recommended to leave it on any surface for an extended period of time.
Britons are also advised to ensure proper ventilation when using cleaning products due to their potent nature, and to keep pets and children at a safe distance.
