Sharing the travel advice for Vietnam, the Foreign Office stated: “Storm Kajiki is approaching central Vietnam, with landfall forecast for around 13.00 on 25 August. Areas including Hue, Thanh Hoa, Ha Noi, Ninh Binh and Danang are forecast to be affected. You should expect high winds and heavy rainfall.

“There is an increased risk of flooding and mudslides in affected areas in the days after landfall. You should expect travel disruption and should follow the advice of local authorities.”

As Typhoon Kajiki intensifies, both Vietnam and China are taking urgent precautions to minimise its impact. Vietnam is preparing to evacuate over 586,000 residents from central provinces including Thanh Hoa, Quang Tri, Hue, and Danang, where the storm is expected to make landfall early Monday.

Authorities have also ordered all boats to remain ashore to avoid dangerous sea conditions. Meanwhile, in China, the southern coastal city of Sanya has shut down businesses and suspended public transport as the storm approaches.

Kajiki, with wind speeds currently reaching up to 149 kph (93 mph), was located about 500 kilometers off Vietnam’s central coast early Sunday and is moving westward at 20 kph.

Forecasts suggest the typhoon could strengthen further, with winds potentially reaching 170 kph (110 mph), and may either strike China’s Hainan Island or skirt its coast before heading toward Vietnam.

Vietnam’s army is also on high alert as Typhoon Kajiki approaches. Military Zones 3, 4, and 5 have been told to work with local officials to find danger zones and help strengthen buildings like homes and schools. Soldiers are also helping evacuate people from areas at risk of landslides and flash floods.
