A popular snack sold in Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Waitrose and Ocado has been recalled.

The chocolate cereal bars have been warned that they may pose a serious health risk for some consumers who have a nut allergy, as they contain almonds.

Perkier Foods’ Salted Caramel Dark Chocolate bar has been recalled because it contains nuts (almonds) that are not mentioned on the label.

The company has also “issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers,” with the Food Standards Agency (FSA) warning that “the product is a possible health risk.”

“Perkier Foods is recalling the above product from customers and has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall,” stated the FSA.

Perkier Foods has recalled its Salted Caramel Dark Chocolate Bar multipacks (3 x 37g), which have a best-before date of October 8, 2025, as the root of the issue.

“This means that the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to almonds,” the company said.

The Food Standard Agency (FSA) has warned: “If you have bought the above product and have an allergy to almonds, do not eat it.”

Instead, the FSA advises customers to return the product to the store you bought it from.”

Perkier Foods added: “We are asking customers who have purchased the above product who have an allergy to almonds not to consume it and to return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund (with or without a receipt). No other products have been affected by this issue.”

The company’s products have issued a point-of-sale notice that explains to customers why the product has been recalled.

Perkier’s notice will also give advice to those who have purchased these products further apologising for any inconvenience caused by the product recall.

The company has also contacted the relevant allergy support organisations.

“We are recalling Perkier Salted Caramel Dark Chocolate bars due to the product containing undeclared almonds,” added Waitrose.

Early and mild symptoms of a nut allergy include hives, lips swelling, throat and mouth tingling, itchy skin, runny nose or digestive issues.

Severe symptoms indicating medical help is needed include difficulty or noisy breathing, swelling of the tongue, swelling or tightness of the throat, difficulty talking, wheezing, dizziness or paleness.
