Floyd Mayweather Jr. is back.

The legendary boxer announced Friday that he is coming out of retirement and returning to boxing after his exhibition bout with Mike Tyson on April 25 in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

“I still have what it takes to set more records in the sport of boxing,” Mayweather said, according to ESPN. “From my upcoming Mike Tyson event to my next professional fight afterwards — no one will generate a bigger gate, have a larger global broadcast audience and generate more money with each event — then my events.”

CSI Sports/Fight Sports will serve as Mayweather’s promoter.

“Signing Floyd Mayweather to un-retire after he captures another worldwide audience with his Mike Tyson match-up, highlights our commitment to providing our global audience with the most high-profile fighters in the sport,” Richard and Craig Miele, co-founders of CSI Sports/Fight Sports, said in a statement to the outlet. “Floyd will once again continue to dominate boxing with the biggest audience and highest gross events of all time.”

Mayweather, who turns 49 on Feb. 24, retired from professional boxing after defeating UFC star Conor McGregor by TKO in 2017.

That win moved his career record to a perfect 500.

Since then, Mayweather, a five-division champ who topped out at 154 pounds, has fought several exhibitions, including a decision win over Logan Paul in June 2021.

Most recently, Mayweather fought in an August 2024 exhibition against John Gotti III that ended in a no-decision.

Mayweather has since teased a potential rematch with boxing rival Manny Pacquiao, but negotiations stalled.

In July, Pacquiao came out of retirement to fight WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios, which ended in a surprising draw.

Mayweather has hinted at coming out of retirement in the past, posting on social media in late 2019 that he was “Coming out of retirement in 2020.”
