We want them to flourish and thrive for the whole of summertime and even into the early part of autumn. So, how do I achieve the very best floral results?
I feed my summer annuals nutritious pellets full of everything they need to grow and flower all summer long. A handful of Vitax Q4 Pellets in my pots will pay floral dividends. I tend to water the pellets in, as this helps dissolve them into the compost and start the feeding process sooner.
The summer annuals need to be watered regularly to keep them at their best. Dry compost will lead to drooping foliage and flowers. Ideally, water summer annuals in the evening so the roots have all night to soak up the moisture.
The summer annuals will need deadheading to keep the flowering cycle going for as long as possible. The deadheading process encourages more flowers and prevents flowering heads turning to seed.
The best way to prevent this is by nipping deadheads off below the petals and beyond the bud. This will stop the plant turning to seed and reducing the amount of flowers it produces. The more flowers the better as they say.
