Floors will be dry immediately after mopping if you use 1 household item

Mopping is great for way more than just making your floors look nice. It lifts away the stuff sweeping or vacuuming misses such as sticky spills, stains, and fine dust. When used with the right cleaner, mopping helps kill bacteria, germs and allergens, especially in kitchens and bathrooms.

However, drying floors after mopping can take forever. You’ve already done the hard part: dragging out the mop, tackling sticky spots, and making your floors sparkle – and wet floors turn your home into a no-go zone. Luckily, one cleaning guru has shared a clever hack that spreeds up the process so you can avoid leaving a trail of mucky footprints on your freshly mopped floors.

Ellie, known as @cleanwithell_ on Instagram, suggests using a pair of socks over your shoes or slippers to quickly buff and dry as you go.

This hack may sound wacky, but wearing a pair of bed socks over your shoes dries your floors as you mop – perfect for when you’re in a rush or are expecting guests imminently,” she said.

“Firstly, put on a pair of slippers or shoes, then add an old pair of bed socks over the top, as you move around to mop you will dry and buff your floor.

“The key to making this hack work is to use a good spin mop,” she said. Products like the Vileda RinseClean Spin Mop allow you to control how much water you use, “so you can really wring out the mop and any excess water.”

“It also features a clever dual-chamber system which keeps clean and dirty water separate, so you’re always cleaning with fresh water – your floors will be so clean and you can check your socks when you’re finished to prove it!

“To make the process even quicker, you only need to use water with this mop to remove 99% of bacteria thanks to the microfibre mop head and it goes straight in the washing machine when you are done.”
