A  flight attendant has shared the meaning behind commonly used ‘code words’ you might hear after taking your seat on a plane.

Cabin crew member Jennie, known as @jeenie.weenie on social media, has revealed the true meaning of plane staff’s secret language in the skies – including what words like ‘bob’ and ‘flip flop’ mean.

In her video, she said: “If you’ve been on a flight, you’ve probably heard flight attendants use words that you don’t understand… this is what they mean.

“If you’ve ever heard flight attendants call each other L1, L2, R1 or R2. We’re just calling each other the areas that we’re designated to.”

She went on to explain how L1 means first left door and R2 is second right door, for example.

She added: “When you hear flight attendants say Tom Cruise, we use this as a trick to remember where tea and coffee goes. Tom Cruise – T and C. Tea here and coffee here.

“If you ever hear a flight attendant say they had to flip flop, please go easy on them. It means they had to embark on a red eye flight, land, get little to no sleep then wake up the next morning and get on a flight.

“Can you imagine having to smile and work with only two hours of sleep?”

For those lucky enough to hear themselves being referred to as a ‘Bob’, Jennie says you’re in luck because it means ‘best on board’.

“This is one of the biggest compliments a passenger can get,” she added. “It means you are our favourite so at the end of the day, try to be a Bob.”

Commenting on her video, one user said: “I thought the R1, R2, L1, L2 were PlayStation buttons or something.”

Another user added: “I was on a Japanese airline (I’m Japanese) and they let me wear some attendant uniforms because I complimented them and even got business class dessert!”

A third user said: “I bring gift cards and treats for the flight attendants. Does that make me a Bob?”

One more user added: “I have been a Bob without knowing! How cute! I only sleep five […] hours every night, and yes, smile being sleepy is horrible!”

A final user said: “I strive to be a Bob in all aspects of travel. in flight, airport security, transportation, etc.”

In her other videos, Jennie shares skits of what it’s like to work on an airline and shares tips and tricks to help passenger receive the best service on their flight.

This usually include showing kindness to the cabin crew in hopes for extra in-flight perks such as seat upgrades or extra food and drinks.
