First glimpse of Sky rival that offers UK homes a new way to watch TV for free

Sky’s latest products such as Sky Glass and Sky Stream are about to be rivalled by a service that’s totally free to watch. Freely is an all-new platform being launched by the team at Everyone TV – that’s the same firm that also looks after Freeview and Freesat. Just like Sky’s latest offerings, Freely won’t require any type of dish or aerial to be installed on chimneys or drilled into the side of walls with all content beamed to televisions via the web instead.

With more of us switching to streaming rather than traditional methods of viewing content, Everyone TV clearly thinks now is the right time to fully join this online revolution.

Freely was actually announced late last year but with a full launch expected soon, consumer have now been given their first look at the service. An image of the TV guide has been published along with some new features including a MiniGuide which pops up each time users switch channels and makes it easier to find related live or on-demand content.

A special Freely button on remote controls will also bring up a Browse option which shows recommended shows and movies from all of the biggest TV providers.

Finally, there’s a new TV Guide which Freely is promising will be simple to navigate but packed with information such as where to find more episodes of things you enjoy viewing and other content linked to favourites.

Along with showing off what’s to come, Freely has also announced a partnership with Vestel. This manufacturer has more than 20 TV brands including Toshiba, Bush, and JVC and will now be featuring the new streaming service on its screens meaning there will be no need for a separate set-top box.

Speaking about the news, Sarah Milton and Carl Pfeiffer, Joint Chief Product Officers, Everyone TV said: “It’s clear the way people are watching TV is changing, with more audiences switching over to a broadband only connection.

“We’ve built Freely around the needs of British audiences, bringing them the freedom to choose how they want to watch, with all their favourite shows from the UK’s leading broadcasters all in one place for free. We’re really proud of what we’re launching with Freely and are excited about bringing major enhancements like the MiniGuide to viewers as Freely launches in Q2 this year.”

There’s still no official launch date but Everyone TV has said that more details about Freely will be announced in the coming weeks, including additional smart TVs, operating systems, and content partners.
