The trailer for a new film starring Charli xcx has dropped. 100 Nights of a Hero is an upcoming historical fantasy film written and directed by Julia Jackman. It is based on the graphic novel of the same name by Isabel Greenberg, which is inspired by the Middle Eastern folktales collected in One Thousand and One Nights. 100 Nights of a Hero stars Emma Corrin, Nicholas Galitzine, Maika Monroe, Amir El-Masry, Richard E. Grant, and Felicity Jones, alongside Charli XCX.
It will be the first of seven film projects that the pop star has coming out after she decided to pursue acting alongside her music career. The star took to Instagram to express her thoughts about being a part of the film while sharing the trailer.
The film’s synopsis reads: “100 Nights of Hero follows the graphic novel’s narrative: In a fantasy world, a woman named Cherry is in love with her maid, Hero. Her neglectful husband leaves her with a boastful friend, Manfred, who has wagered he can seduce her in 100 nights. To save Cherry from this fate, Hero begins telling the suitor elaborate, captivating stories, much like Scheherazade, to distract and control him, weaving a web of fantasy that protects her and Cherry’s secret love.”
On the film director Jackman, who acquired the rights to the novel before the Pandemic, said: “I’ve been in love with Isabel’s graphic novel since I read it in 2016, and it’s been a dream to adapt it into its own weird cinematic universe.
“I’m excited for people to see what we’ve done with Manfred, Cherry and Hero — even if you’ve read the book, you may not know the whole story just yet.”
Fans expressed their excitement for the film on Charli xcx’s post, with one stating: “This looks so refreshingly spectacular and different than what we usually get fed …oh and woman directed it perhaps that has something to do with it.”
100 Nights of Hero will have its world premiere at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival at the Settimana Internazionale della Critica section on September 6, 2025. The film is scheduled to be released on December 5.
