A father was left horrified after walking in on his lodger lying on top of his seven-year-old daughter with his pants around his ankles. Daniel D’Angelo, 53, had been renting a room from the homeowner but failed to disclose his status as a registered sex offender. D’Angelo was arrested and charged with lewd conduct and failure to disclose his status on August 17, according to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office.
The father of the alleged seven-year-old victim found the 53-year-old shirtless, with his pants around his ankles, lying on top of her in her bedroom, an arrest warrant obtained by WTFX revealed. The girl’s father confronted the sex offender and an altercation broke out – with the homeowner taking photos of the nightmarish scene to show the police as evidence. The images allegedly show D’Angelo pulling his jeans back up and leaving the seven-year-old’s bedroom.
She told authorities that she woke up to the 53-year-old on top of her without his shirt.
He then allegedly began touching her leg and put his finger in her ear before her father walked in.
Investigators reportedly found the sex offender’s shirt in the girl’s bed, but he denied the allegations and insisted that the photos were part of a set-up.
He admitted to being a registered sex offender and an alcoholic, adding that he had been drinking earlier that day.
D’Angelo moved into a room in the family home in Port Charlotte, Florida, a few weeks before the incident, according to US reports.
Florida requires sex offenders to register their new address within 48 hours of moving in.
The 53-year-old was charged with second-degree lewd and lascivious conduct and third-degree failure to register as a sex offender, according to Charlotte County Jail records.
He is being held behind bars at the Punda Gorda prison.
