Fans will cool down your home if you clean them with 1 simple bedroom item

Everyone loves a warm, sunny day, but once it gets dark, it can be frustrating trying to cool down so you can have a comfortable night’s sleep. If your bedroom still feels warm even with the fan switched on, it is likely that dust is stuck between the fan blades.Fans covered in dust not only look grimy, but the buildup also makes it harder for the blades to move and for air to circulate, so you will continue to feel hot at night. However, Lynsey Crombie, a cleaning expert known as the ‘Queen of Clean’ has shared getting a fan working properly is incredibly easy as all you need is a make-up brush.

Lynsey said: “The most effective way to clean the stubborn dust out from your fan is to use a recycled make up or paint brush.”

Makeup and paintbrushes are the best way to remove dust, as they can reach into the narrow spaces between fan blades that other cleaning tools, such as cloths or sponges, cannot access.

Water and cleaning sprays should never be used on fans, as they can easily drip onto the electric motor and cause damage.

However, a soft-bristled makeup brush, can safely and effectively remove dust from hard-to-reach areas in less than five minutes.

It can be tempting to try and use a hairdryer or vacuum to clean a fan, but these methods can blow air into the fan’s internal components, which can potentially cause electrical issues

Lynsey said: “A hair dryer blast or the vacuum nozzle just doesn’t cut it when the dust is thick and clung onto the grates and blades.”

How to use a makeup brush to clean a fan

To begin, make sure the fan is unplugged and switched off before you begin cleaning.

Make sure to also pick a clean and small soft bristled brush like a foundation blush brush as anything bigger could damage the fan blades.

Then all you have to do is hold the brush at a angle and then light. sweep the dust from the blades.

Lynsey said: “When cleaning the blades you don’t want to bend them so the brush is perfect for pushing away the dust and won’t cause any damage.”

If needed, brush the outside of the fan to remove any excess dust. If the outside grill cover is removable, you can give it a quick wash but make sure it is completely dry before turning on the fan again.

In just a few minutes, your fan will be thoroughly cleaned, and you should notice the fan working a lot better to keep your bedroom comfortably cool.
