King Charles has been encouraged to honour Sarina Wiegman after England’s 2-1 win in the Euros 2025 Final on Sunday. The Lionesses took on Spain in the final held in Switzerland on July 27, with Prince William and Princess Charlotte cheering them on in the crowd.

Taking to X shortly after their win, the King congratulated the team. He wrote: “Congress England. This brings you, your manager and all your support team my most heartfelt congratulations on winning the EUROS 2025. For more years than I care to remember, England fans have sung that famous chant ‘football’s coming home’.”

The message continued: “As you return home with the trophy you won at Wembley three years ago, it is a source of great pride that, through sporting skill and awesome teamwork the Lionesses have made those words ring true. For this, you have my whole family’s warmest appreciation and admiration.

“More than that, though, you have shown through your example over past weeks that there are no setbacks so tough that defeat cannot be transformed into victory, even as the final whistle looms.”

As well as congratulating the team, the King also challenged them to think ahead to the World Cup in two years time. He added: “Well done, Lionesses. The next task is to bring home the World Cup in 2027 if you possibly can!, before being signed off by ‘Charles R’.”

In a poll conducted by the Express, which ran between 4.15pm on July 28 to 5pm on July 29, fans were asked whether the King should honour Sarina.

Of the 1,538 who voted in the poll, 928 people voted that the King should honour the team’s manager.

593 people voted that he shoud not, whereas just 17 voted that they were unsure on what the King should do.

Taking to the comment section, one fan commented: “Why not? She’s achieved quite a bit and put the womens’ game on the map.”

Having clearly voted ‘yes’, another fan write that, “She should get a Damehood. At least she has achieved something for England….Twice.”
