The number of Bank Holidays in the UK varies slightly by country. For 2025, England and Wales will have eight bank holidays, Scotland nine, and Northern Ireland 10.
However, there are a few reasons extra bank holidays could be introduced across the UK, like major sporting victories, Royal events, and patron saints. The Express has laid out the most likely reasons we could get another public holiday, based on past events.
King Charles III has already been the monarch for nearly three years. His coronation was held on May 6, 2023, and his reign officially started on September 8, 2022.
However, a 10-year bank holiday may be less likely, as the UK only declared a four-day weekend in 2022 for Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee, after 70 years on the throne.
