Princess Kate flew the flag for British fashion as she stepped out in a stunning Catherine Walker coat dress at Trooping the Colour earlier today. The Princess of Wales wore a striking turquoise ensemble, with a fashion expert noting that the vibrant colour could be seen as a “beautiful tribute” to Macmillan Cancer Support, whose branding features a similar shade.
Princess Charlotte, Kate’s daughter, also wore the hue, sweetly matching her mother. The Duchess of Edinburgh joined them in solidarity, donning the same bold colour — a touching gesture of support for Princess Kate, 43, after a challenging year for her health.
Last March, Kate publicly shared that she had been diagnosed with cancer following major abdominal surgery in January. Although the initial surgery was believed to be for a non-cancerous condition, subsequent tests revealed cancer, prompting the start of preventative chemotherapy.
The Princess scaled back her royal duties for several months but announced in January that she was in remission, and has been recently making a gradual return to the world stage. However, just weeks prior to Kate’s announcement, Buckingham Palace revealed that King Charles III had also been diagnosed with cancer following hospital treatment for an enlarged prostate. He, too, is currently undergoing treatment.
Back in November, Prince William spoke and described the dreadful year his family faced during a four-day trip to Cape Town for his Earthshot Prize.
Speaking in an interview with the UK media who accompanied him on the trip he said: “I’m so proud of my wife, I’m proud of my father, for handling the things that they have done,” he said.
“But from a personal family point of view, it’s been, yeah, it’s been brutal.”
Leading fashion expert Rebecca Bowyer, who is an international celebrity and red carpet stylist, told the Daily Express: “Green is undeniably the colour of Macmillan, with King Charles and Princess Kate both undergoing health challenges; this can be perceived as a beautiful tribute to the charity and the vital work they do. It’s subtle, but it’s deliberate in projecting a united front of support.”
Both Princess Kate and her husband, Prince William, are joint patrons of Macmillan Cancer Support.
The charity is known for providing a wide range of support services to people affected by cancer, including emotional, practical, and financial assistance.
Speaking of Kate’s look, branded it as “iconic”. She continued, “The silhouette is polished and elegant; the vivid aquamarine Catherine Walker coat dress was the perfect choice, dignified, regal and yet the shape and cut feel modern.
“Perhaps the outfit’s most compelling element is a clear homage to Princess Diana; I can imagine Diana wearing this look with the same confidence. Catherine Walker was also Princess Diana’s favourite designer.Duchess Sophie, 60, also joined senior royals on the balcony and donned an emerald Beulah London design and paired it with Jane Taylor millinery,” added Rebecca.
Meanwhile, her husband, Prince Edward, wore his Order of the Thistle sash, rather than his Order of the Garter sash, which comes as a surprise as he is Colonel of the Scots Guards – but this poignant display spoke volumes.
The expert shared that the royals stood united for the event, sharing, “In royalty, fashion is more than an expression; it’s a diplomatic language meticulously thought out. This coordinated palette, unapologetically regal and dignified, sends a message of unity, loyalty and respect.”
