Expert shares fastest selling used cars with one model ‘flying off forecourts' in days

The new and used vehicle retailer Auto Trader has shared the fastest-selling models of 2023, stating some models were typically sold in under two weeks.

According to the company, the Ford Kuga took the least amount of time to sell, with examples selling on average after 13 days on the market.

Erin Baker, Editorial Director at Auto Trader, noted that SUVs in particular were in demand from used car buyers throughout the year.

She explained: “2023 was another strong year for the used car market with cars flying off retailers’ forecourts in no time at all. Brits’ love for SUVs shows no signs of slowing down with seven of the top ten fastest selling cars last year coming from this body type.

“This includes both the Ford Kuga and Kia Niro – two cars that deliver an attractive package of features, all round visibility and competitive pricing.”

Out of the top ten fastest selling used models, seven were SUVs, with larger hatchbacks also getting attention from buyers.

Whilst most cars on the list were modern, with five examples typically being under a year old, there was also a strong demand for Audi A3s that are over 15 years old.

More modern German models also sold quickly during 2023, with three Mercedes-Benz models and two Audis in the top ten.

Fastest Selling Used Cars of 2023 (Average Days to Sell):

  1. Ford Kuga – 13
  2. Mercedes-Benz A-Class Hatchback – 14
  3. Mercedes-Benz A-Class Saloon – 15
  4. Kia E-Niro – 16
  5. Kia Sportage – 17
  6. Kia Niro – 17
  7. Audi A3 – 17.5
  8. Skoda Karoq – 17.5
  9. Audi e-tron – 18
  10. Mercedes-Benz GLA – 18

Erin also highlighted that two of the most popular models with buyers, the Kia E-Niro and Audi e-tron, are fully electric.

She continued: “Despite the ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel vehicles now being pushed back to 2035, consumers are still looking to make the transition to electric especially as prices for popular used EVs such as the Tesla Model 3 start to reach the same price point with their traditionally fuelled counterparts.”

Auto Trader also noted that, during the first two weeks of 2024, a number of other electric models, including the Mercedes-Benz EQC and Tesla Model 3 were also in high demand.
