A PR expert has given a savage five-word verdict about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s future when it comes to streaming. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s Netflix contract will end this September, and new reports claim the streaming giant will not be looking to renew it.
The Montecito couple has produced five projects on Netflix so far, but only one of them, their bombshell 2022 docuseries Harry & Meghan, managed to climb the charts and generate enough views. Meghan’s newest cookery show for Netflix was the latest project to flop with 5.3million views this year and ranking 383rd, while Harry’s Polo plummeted to the 3,436th spot with a measly 500,000 views.
Now, with the Sussexes’ Netflix contract at the centre of discussions, a PR expert has given insights into whether the couple has any kind of future when it comes to streaming.
Renae Smith, PR and brand development expert and founder of The Atticism, told the Express that this is “the end of the road” for the Duke and Duchess as no major platform will want to approach them after their two big flops with Netflix and Spotify.
When they quit the Royal Family in 2020, Harry and Meghan struck two major deals with Netflix and Spotify, with the latter axing their contract due to not enough content.
Ms Smith told us: “I honestly think this is the end of the road for them when it comes to streaming. Could they produce something on their own? Sure, they have the money.
“But will any major platform touch them now? I highly doubt it. They’re starting to feel like damaged goods.
“It’s the opposite of the Midas touch! Everything they touch right now turns to dust. I think streaming is done for them for now.”
