Back in April, Meghan stepped out in a baggy Ralph Lauren silk-linen twill suit, complete with a longline blazer and wide-leg trousers.
The look was worn at the TIME100 Summit in New York City, where she appeared alongside Prince Harry to discuss her Netflix projects and new lifestyle brand, As Ever.
Just a few months earlier, she had been seen rocking another relaxed silhouette – beige floor-length trousers paired with a matching halter waistcoat for a high-profile business event in the Hamptons.
That particular ensemble came with a luxury price tag, as Meghan sported her favourite mix of high-end and high-street fashion. The St Agni buttoned vest cost £209, while the coordinating trousers were priced at £255.
Celebrity stylist Rochelle White told the Daily Mail that if Meghan’s trousers were taken straight from the Australian label’s sample range, they may not have been possible to alter for her 5ft 6in frame.
Rochelle explained: “I know that wide-leg long trousers are in fashion and trend piece right now. They have been dominating Instagram and runways, so I think she likes the style.”
She added: “But the Duchess could also be working with either a designer, fashion house, or stylist where it might not be possible to have alterations done so that they are more fitting to her leg length. So, as a result, they are longer.”
Oversized clothing, however, has another benefit beyond fashion trends – it allows Meghan to maintain control over her public image.
Loose fits can conceal body shape, reduce scrutiny over her figure, and add an element of mystery to her overall look. Experts say this perfectly aligns with the current Hollywood aesthetic, where effortless silhouettes and off-duty glamour are often seen as a sign of status.
Speaking exclusively to the Daily Express, Caroline Holden – who once dressed Queen Camilla – argued that Meghan risks making one major fashion faux pas by relying too heavily on baggy clothing.
She said: “Meghan tends to allow her clothes to do the talking and not her figure, there’s not even a touch of sparkle.
“She should dress to her body size and shape and show off her style rather than allowing the outfits to dominate her. Most of the items she wears are extremely ill-fitting and baggy, and she could benefit from the use of a good stylist.”
