Meghan Markle is back on Instagram for the first time in years and has already posted an array of reels, giving fans a glimpse into her private life.
Amid Meghan’s sudden return to the social media platform, a social media expert has decoded key decisions behind her posts so far, and the meaning behind the content, explaining it is “more than just a spontaneous act of boredom”.
As the world entered 2025, Meghan’s Instagram handle, @meghan, gained traction when she uploaded a video depicting the numbers ‘2025’ as she ran along a beach in a carefree manner, welcoming in the New Year.
Social media manager at Ellis Digital, Caitlin Jardine, told Express.co.uk, 2025 might be an inspirational year for The Duchess of Sussex, saying: “The video of her running on the beach and writing ‘2025’ in the sand for example, suggests optimism, personal reflection and inspiration driven by what the new year has the potential to bring for her.”
A week later and the mother-of-two has amassed 1.4million followers on Instagram and her content is being celebrated by her closest friends and supporters.
Meghan’s second post featured the trailer for her long-awaited Netflix production ‘With Love, Meghan’, a cooking show, featuring recipes from celebrity friends, and showcased Meghan baking sweet treats with her friends and loved ones.
The eight-episode series is set to launch on January 15, and Meghan captioned her post: “I have been so excited to share this with you! I hope you love the show as much as I loved making it. Wishing you all a fantastic new year! Thanks to our amazing crew and the team @netflix. Beyond grateful for the support – and fun!”
Followers of Meghan then noted an emotional tribute post uploaded just a few days later explaining how she was “devastated” about the loss of one of her dogs, Guy, who also featured in the Netflix trailer, as he snored in his dog basket, while she cooked.
Social media expert, Caitlin, explained the “relatability” factor behind the post. She said: “Furthermore the trailer of her recently announced Netflix documentary promotes her professional image and relatability, and the tribute to her late adopted dog Guy, adds a deeply personal, relatable touch.
“Combined, they begin to build a foundation of content that projects her personality and priorities, amid her sudden return to the platform.”
The social media guru also explained how her content appeals to the “multitude of values” sought after by her fans.
She said: “Her audience expects content that feels authentic and reflects her values. Whether that’s through storytelling content that showcases her advocacy work, glimpses into her personal life, or meaningful moments in her life, e.g. the birth of her children or marriage to Prince Harry.”
Neither King Charles and Queen Camilla’s @theroyalfamily handle nor William and Kate Middleton’s @princeandprincessofwales profile have clicked to follow @meghan on Instagram but both official accounts still follow the @sussexroyal page that Meghan and Harry once maintained.
Prior to starting a relationship with Prince Harry and deleting her social media accounts, Meghan used to run a lifestyle blog, The Tig, which she closed down in April 2017 – just a few months before her engagement to Prince Harry was announced.
