'Exceptional' World War II film leaves viewers in tears and declared a 'masterpiece'

A recent wartime film has left audiences in floods of tears, with many declaring it a must-see, following the success of one film declared “flawless” and another beloved wartime series that has captured the hearts of both fans and critics, reports the Mirror.

World War II enthusiasts are urged not to miss this cinematic gem, which has been lauded for its poignant approach to the subject matter by film reviewers.

Released in 2019, the movie has received rave reviews from viewers.

One glowing IMDb review gave it a perfect score, stating: “Just watch it and see for yourself. My opinion, it was hilarious and heartfelt. The acting was superb. The story was thought provoking. It was funny at times and heartbreaking at times.”

Another top-rated comment praised the film’s emotional depth: “Moving, hilarious…tragic”, with the user adding: “The trailer for the movie had me scratching my head but as a HUGE fan of Waititi I felt I ought to give it a shot.”

They continued: “My best spoiler free review is that this is an original, outrageous film. The emotional gamut we are subjected to is whiplash inducing, but without the neck brace and ambulance chasing lawyers.”Yet another stellar review said: “I laughed and I cried” and remarked: “This film was exceptional and one of the best I’ve seen this year. Watiti has great comedic vision and the cast is phenomenal.”

They concluded: “Jojo Rabbit was weird, funny, heartwarming and heartbreaking and I think its definitely worth the watch.”

Another reviewer titled their critique: “From crying with laughter to tears of despair” and penned: “For me this film is a total paradox. I have never laughed so hard in one scene and then cried like a baby in the next. It’s unique. Go watch.”

Jojo Rabbit is a satirical tale centred on a 10 year old boy, brainwashed by Nazi Germany, who imagines a humorous version of Adolf Hitler as his friend. His perspective shifts dramatically when he discovers a Jewish girl hiding from the Nazis in his attic.

The film boasts a star-studded cast featuring newcomer Roman Griffin Davis, Thomasin McKenzie of The Hobbit fame, writer-director Taika Waititi, Rebel Wilson from Bridesmaids, Stephen Merchant of The Office, Game of Thrones’ Alfie Allen, Sam Rockwell from The White Lotus, and Hollywood luminary Scarlett Johansson.

Waititi adapted Christine Leunens’s 2008 novel Caging Skies into a screenplay, which was initially drafted in 2011 but languished in development for nearly 10 years. The original script, much darker in tone, was revised to incorporate more humour and the clownish Hitler character.

After securing approval, the film was shot in 2018 and released the following year. Jojo Rabbit garnered numerous accolades, including an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay awarded to Waititi.
