Car experts have highlighted the precise day when motorists are at their highest risk of experiencing a road traffic collision.
An analysis by the team at Admiral, who looked at seven years of data, have found one particular date to be “the worst day for car accidents”.
Admiral’s investigation also revealed Christmas Day, December 25, as the “safest” day and similarly labelled “Christmas Week” as the safest week to be on the roads. However, research conducted by Admiral Car Insurance identifies January 18 as the “most dangerous day to drive”, evidenced by the spike in accident claims on this date compared with any other.
The insurer indicated that generally, there is are 35% more accident claims on January 18 every year compared to an average day. And when compared with December 25, there are some 288% more accidents.
Admiral said it seems to be more dangerous to drive during the winter months, with “all but one of the top ten days for the highest number of accidents taking place in winter months.”

- January 18
- December 5
- December 1
- January 16
- November 30
- December 14
- February 28
- December 15
- December 4

Elsewhere, specialists at Lightfoot suggest that Friday emerges as the day of the week with the most car accidents. Their research suggest that “Friday is the most hazardous day of the week for fleet drivers with the highest number of accidents, speeding events, and incidences of aggressive driving taking place”.
Experts added: “Our data showed that Friday at 9am is the most common time for an accident to take place – based on the number of FNOL (first notification of loss) alerts sent from our devices. Altogether, Friday is also the worst day of the week for aggressive driving, with more instances of harsh braking, sudden turns, and sharp cornering.”
