Former Australian Football League star Daniel Stewart died Friday at the age of 37 after an “unexpected medical episode,” according to the gym he co-owned, as reported by news.com.au.

Body Fit Training reportedly emailed members to inform them of the ex-Port Adelaide standout’s death.

“It is with the deepest sadness that we share the sudden passing of our dearly loved owner and friend, Daniel Stewart (Snowy), after an unexpected medical episode yesterday,” the email read, according to news.com.au. “Snowy is so deeply loved by all who knew him; an incredible husband, father, friend, business partner to Matty (Thomas), and a beloved part of the BFT community. Our hearts break for his family, for Matty, for his team who all have such close bonds with him, and for our community.”

Port Adelaide previously announced the “sudden” death of Stewart, who played for the franchise from 2010-13 and appeared in 36 games and tallied 31 goals after being drafted by the club in 2009.

The team plans to wear black armbands at its first home game in 2027 to honor him.

“Daniel was part of the Port Adelaide football family, and he always will be, Port Adelaide chief executive Matthew Richardson said in a statement.

“A sudden passing like this is devastating and our thoughts are with everyone who loved him, and with the teammates, coaches and staff who shared the journey with him here at Alberton.

Stewart’s BFT partner and fellow former AFLer, Matty Thomas, posted recently — and seemingly before Stewart’s death — a photo of the two working out.

“17 years of friendship. From teammates to business partners, to dads — and still each other’s biggest motivators,” he wrote. Still doing BFT classes because they work!!!! 💪🏽. Respect the grind 😤.”

Stewart’s wife, Laura, posted to social media that she was “devastated.”

“Devastated to confirm the loss of our world. A heart too big for this world. We love you so much daddy,’ she wrote, per news.com.au.

“Please respect our privacy as we navigate this incredible loss and prioritise our boys.”
