Evil baby killer Lucy Letby given key to her own cell in prison

Infant serial killer Lucy Letby is reported to have been given the keys to her own cell, in a move that will shock and anger those who believed she would be kept behind bars for the rest of her life.

The Sunday People was told by a member of one of the families devastated by Letby: “We thought they were throwing away the key, and now it turns out she has her own.”

As well as her comfortable environment, Letby is said to have befriended two other inmates – Michelle Smith, a mother who murdered her own baby and Shauna Hoare who was imprisoned for her part in the killing of 16-year-old Becky Watts.

An outraged source told the Mirror: “They were together 24 hours a day – they were a well-known threesome and were literally never apart.”

“They’d spend hours sitting on the wing landing playing board games, eating dinner together and tanning in the courtyard. I think they got on because they all believed they were innocent.”

Letby is in HMP Bronzefield in Surrey. She was struck off the nursing register but maintains her innocence.

The 33-year-old was sentenced in August last year to 14 whole-life orders after being convicted of murdering seven babies and trying to murder six others, with two bids on one victim.

Her crimes occurred on the Countess of Chester Hospital’s neonatal unit, where she worked between June 2015 and June 2016.

She was found unfit to be a member of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) at a hearing in east London. The panel chairman Bernard Herdan told the Stratford hearing: “She deliberately inflicted extreme harm on the most vulnerable of victims.”

He added that her actions were “so serious that to allow her to continue practising would pose an unacceptable risk to the public and would undermine public confidence in the profession”.
