Every PS5 and Xbox fan can breathe sigh of relief after price announced for huge new game

Video game pricing has been big news in recent months, after Nintendo announced plans to charge more money for new first-party games such as Mario Kart World.

There were also fears that upcoming looter shooter Borderlands 4 would usher in new price points for blockbuster PS5 and Xbox Series X|S games, especially after recent comments made by Gearbox founder Randy Pitchford.

Responding to a fan who begged the Borderlands developer not to charge $80 for the upcoming sequel, the studio head said that real fans would find a way to pay the extra money.

“If you’re a real fan, you’ll find a way to make it happen,” Pitchford tweeted. “My local game store had Starflight for Sega Genesis for $80 in 1991 when I was just out of high school working minimum wage at an ice cream parlour in Pismo Beach and I found a way to make it happen.”

The comments led to speculation that Borderlands 4 would cost at least $80 when it launches on September 12.

Fortunately, however, publisher 2K Games has just opened pre-orders for Borderlands 4, complete with a $69.99 price tag.

Needless to say, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S fans can breathe a sigh of relief, as one of this year’s games remains just that little bit more affordable.

Annoyingly for us Brits, Borderlands 4 costs £69.99 in the UK, which is roughly $94 based on current exchange rates. Still, rather £69.99 than £79.99, I suppose.

Of course, fans with extra money to burn can pre-order more expensive versions of the game, complete with additional content.

The £89.99 Deluxe Edition contains the Gilded Glory Pack, the Firehawk’s Fury Weapon Skin and the Bounty Pack Bundle.

Then there’s the Super Deluxe Edition, which comes in at a whopping £119.99. This contains all of the aforementioned rewards, alongside the Ornate Order Pack and Vault Hunter Pack. The Vault Hunter Pack adds playable Vault Hunters, as well as two story expansions and map locations.

Borderlands 4 takes place on an all-new planet that’s been taken over by a ruthless dictator.

Needless to say, players will be able to unlock a staggering number of weapon combinations, all of which are complemented by new Action Skills.

According to developer Gearbox, it features new movement mechanics like double jumping, gliding, dodging and fixed-point grappling.
