Evangelos Marinakis is reportedly stunned by Nuno Espirito Santo’s comments about his future at Nottingham Forest amid talk the Portuguese tactician could be sacked. The Forest boss opened up about his relationship with the club co-owner ahead of Forest’s weekend clash with Crystal Palace.
It’s a fixture where tensions have already been heightened, given Forest were the side to benefit from Crystal Palace’s demotion from the Europa League earlier this summer. But a spanner was thrown into the works when Espirito Santo revealed his connection with the hierarchy have been tested in recent weeks.
The Athletic have reported that a rift has stemmed between Espirito Santo and Edu Gaspar, who recently arrived as global head of football following a stint with Premier League rivals Arsenal.
Speaking on Friday afternoon, Espirito Santo said: “Look, I have always had a very good relationship with the owner. Last season, we were very, very, very close, almost [talking] on a daily basis.
“This season, not so well. But I always believe that dialogue and what you say or your opinions are always valid because my concern is the squad and the season that we have ahead of us. But our relationship has changed. It’s not so close. It’s not on a daily basis. It’s not good. I think everybody at the club should be together but it’s not the reality.”
