A European city is renowned as one of the best places globally to witness the mesmerising Northern Lights. This natural spectacle is a must-see for many, and there’s no better place to tick it off your bucket list than in this European city.

Reykjavik, Iceland, offers numerous ‘light-hunting’ expeditions during peak season, but spotting this natural wonder isn’t as straightforward as you might imagine. October is an ideal time to visit, with longer, darker nights that aren’t too chilly, allowing you to enjoy the expeditions without freezing. In October, the chances of catching sight of the stunning lights are higher due to clearer skies. Plus, it’s not the peak tourist season, so it won’t be overly crowded.

The experience of witnessing the Northern Lights in Iceland has received high praise from travellers worldwide.

A traveller who embarked on the Reykjavik Excursions Northern Lights Tour shared their experience on Tripadvisor, stating: “After spending time at one location observing various different light shows, we were taken to another. We thought we had seen the best of the Northern Lights and were all strapped in ready to head back, when the bus lights went off, Kalli switched off the engine and told us to get off the bus quick.

“The Northern Lights show we then experienced was out of this world, Kalli crying out, ‘It’s a corona!’, the best of the spectacles. Thanks to him and his persistence, we experienced something truly magical”.

TimeOut’s Jamie Inglis also shared his experience of seeing the Northern Lights in Iceland, writing: “I caught a hint of the Northern Lights on the edge of Reykjavik, and then saw them again further out in Iceland. In their full glory, the lights danced across the sky in greens, blues, purples and everything in-between, at mind-boggling scale.”

While you’re in Reykjavik, don’t miss out on the city’s other offerings. One such attraction is the Sky Lagoon, home to one of the country’s renowned geothermal pools.

The water is naturally heated beneath the earth’s surface, creating a hot spring for visitors to enjoy.

These steaming baths are powered by Iceland’s volcanic core, ensuring you’ll stay warm despite the chilly weather.

The city boasts a rich cultural and historical heritage, with the iconic Hallgrímskirkja church tower dominating the Reykjavik skyline.

The towering 73-metre structure offers breathtaking panoramic views, providing the perfect backdrop for a memorable photo.
