EuroMillions jackpot: Maths expert’s formula to win £119m tonight | UK | News

A mathematics expert has revealed the perfect formula to winning the huge £119million Euromillions jackpot tonight. Dr David Hodge, a lecturer in statistics and data analytics at the University of Glasgow, has shared his tips and tricks to increase the chances of a lucky winner walking away with all of the money in the EuroMillions game. To play the game, participants must pick five numbers from 1-50 and two lucky stars from 1-12, or you can choose a lucky dip.

To become instantly richer than the likes of big-name celebrities, Dr Hodge has revealed his probability secrets for winning big. Firstly, the expert recommends picking “boring numbers”. He explained that, as each number has an equal probability of being drawn, there is no such thing as a “lucky” number. Therefore, pick numbers which other players are least likely to pick, as it reduces your chances of sharing the prize pot with anyone else.

“Any prize could be theoretically shared, so you will want to be the only one who wins if you do win,” he explained to The Sun. “So that means you need your numbers not to be other people’s numbers. That means avoiding number patterns.”

Dr Hodge said the top five most frequently drawn numbers are: 21, 23, 42, 29 and 17. Avoiding these numbers may boost your chances of taking home all of the £119million, with the expert recommending picking 37 as it has only been drawn 91 times.

The numbers 24, 13 and 32 are also good options, he said.

“People might look for numbers that haven’t come up very often, because they think they’re due to come up soon,” the expert said.

“This is nonsense, because past numbers have no effect on what’s going to happen in the future.”

Mr Hodge also says to avoid picking “weird” combinations, such as 1,2,3,4,5, as most of the time, it “is actually more popular than you might think”.

Avoiding number patterns when picking digits for the Euromillions is quite key for increasing your chances of winning. “Humans are notoriously bad at picking random numbers,” the expert continued.

“So it’s likely that your attempt at picking five truly random numbers will probably fail.

“The best thing to do is get a computer to pick random numbers – which is what a Lucky Dip does.”
