California Rep. Eric Swalwell launched a furious attack on Dave Portnoy on Saturday after the Barstool Sports boss defended America’s bombing of Iran.
The Democratic gubernatorial candidate demanded Portnoy “stick to sports” after the businessman claimed President Donald Trump was “on the right side here.”
The US and Israel pounded Tehran over the weekend, killing Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei along with dozens of his top officials.
Iranians and Americans across the US rejoiced at the prospect that the tyrannical regime was on its last legs following over 40 years of terror.
Portnoy took to X on Saturday, tweeting: “I always laugh at yo-yo’s who don’t have the 1st clue what information the President had that forced this decision.
“Even politicians who despise him but were briefed on the situation seem to agree with this operation. I guess lotta podcasters know better.
Follow The Post’s coverage of the United States’ airstrikes on Iran:
“Gotta keep the lights on somehow. Borderline traitors if you ask me. Iran is a terror nation with a long history of some of the worst human rights atrocities in the world.
“Nobody disputes that fact. They hate Americans. They hate Israel. They hate all Jews. They hate the West. They would kill us all if given the chance.
“They just murdered tens of thousands of their own people. The rest of the Middle East is on our side. The Iranian people are on our side.
“It isn’t that complicated to support our Troops and our country this morning. We are on the right side here. God Bless America.”
But many on the left were left livid by the airstrikes, claiming the bombing campaign amounted to Trump dragging the US into an “illegal war.”
Replying to Portnoy, Swalwell wrote: “Stick to sports. You’re at least half-right there. Your whiny-a** ain’t going to an Iran battlefield anytime soon.
“It’ll be poor kids from where I grew up. Life must be pretty comfy in your suite. Stick to judging your favorite pizzas. The adults will sort out the wars.”
Swalwell later added on the airstrikes: “Now is the time for values-based arguments against war with Iran. NOT process (“Come to Congress”) ones.
“If asked for permission to go to war with Iran we must make it clear the answer is HELL NO. We need lower costs not costly wars.”
The US and Israel tracked Ali Khamenei for months and waited for a rare opening before striking — a massive meeting of 40 of the Islamic Republic’s security officials at his fortified Tehran compound.
Israeli fighter jets swooped in Saturday as part of widespread strikes, turning the building into rubble — and killing the despotic cleric along with dozens of officials and three members of his family.
The CIA had familiarized itself with the patterns of the 86-year-old tyrant before obtaining new intelligence of the fateful meeting in the center of Tehran.
The agency developed what officials described as “high fidelity” intelligence confirming that Khamenei himself would be present at the leadership compound.
