England’s ‘best’ seaside town that’s not in Cornwall or Devon | UK | News

England boasts of a number of beautiful seaside resorts, scattered across the UK’s diverse coastline and landscape. UK beaches are famously different from one to the next due to our varying geography, weather and even geology. These factors all play into beaches which can either be sandy, pebbly or rocky, with some even having volcanic rock and chalk cliffs too. But which one is said to be among England’s best?

One traditional seaside town is no stranger to winning awards and impressive accolades thanks to its unique setting and rich history, with the UK Beach Guide even praising it for its “quirkiness and charm”. These sentiments were echoed by Conde Nast Traveller who declared Whitstable in Kent as being “undoubtedly one of the best seaside towns in England” and featured in the prestigious publication’s top beaches in England guide.

Nothing quite evokes childhood sentiments of British holidays back in the day quite like seeing images of fishing boats, weatherboard cottages and colorful beach huts.

Praised for its panoramic sea views on offer here including stunning sunsets and excellent seafood options, Whitstable is like no other with locals embracing a more relaxed way of life with a traditional seaside feel ever present.

It became a popular spot for UK seaside holidays ever since 1830 when the Canterbury and Whitstable line opened, igniting an obsession among those looking for the ultimate seaside escape.

Ever since the capital became connected to the seaside resort so Whisttable has grown in popularity and is described as being so impressive it’s even up there with the likes of Margate, Broadstairs and Deal.

Found only an hour from London, this charming seaside town is situated east of the Isle of Sheppey in the historic county of Kent, southeastern England.

As summer hits, the town comes alive with a hive of activity and an array of watersports to choose from with the sea being described as being relatively calm allowing for endless paddling and are a  good option for children.

“”Whether you’re craving a day beside the English Channel or somewhere to lay your head for a few relaxing nights, Whitstable is undoubtedly one of the best seaside towns in England,” wrote Conde Nast Traveller.

“The town has long been a popular haunt, and it’s known that the Romans enjoyed the native oysters so much that they were shipped all the way to the heart of the Roman Empire in Italy.”

The publication added how Whiststable’s atmosphere “feels quintessentially English” thanks to its many “rusted fishing boats” and  “sea-weathered beach huts”.

“While sandy shores are to be found in either direction along the dazzling Kent coast, this pebbly spot holds a special place in many of our hearts.”

Of course it’s not all charming coastlines and mouth watering oysters here in Whitstable, as this seaside town is also a treasure trove of historical gems and was the scene of numerous invasions due to its position facing Europe across the Strait of Dover, Kent.

One review on TripAdvisor wrote: “This is one of my most favourite places to go. I loved everything about it!

“The quirky little market, people eating oysters from the street food vendors and the beautiful harbour full of boats of all shapes and sizes and is truly a lovely place I would gladly go back again.”
