Full-back Freddie Steward refused to press the panic button after another demoralising defeat in Dublin.
As England players trudged out of the Aviva Stadium they knew they had let off the Ireland off the hook after turning a 10-5 lead at half-time into a 27-22 defeat.
But Steward urged fans not to fret over their dismal recent record and insisted England’s only fault was not going the distance and keeping their foot down for 80 minutes.
The 24-year-old said: “There’s no need to worry from the match, of course we’re fuming that we haven’t come away with more but there were good bits.
“We keep saying it but the challenge is that 80-minute performance. For the most part it was solid and we caused them a few problems.
“Again, it’s the challenge of being consistent with that for the whole game.
“At half-time we were in a good position. We had executed our game plan well – and then just shot ourselves in the foot in the second half.”
Steward was part of a Leicester team hammered 80-12 by Toulouse in the Champions Cup recently and that French outfit make up the guts of the national team arriving in London next weekend.
Steward added: “It’ll be a hell of a game and a hell of a challenge for us but we’re back in front of our fans, we’re back at the Allianz.
“Regardless of this and that we came away with a bonus point, the boys will be wanting to prove a few people wrong.”
