When Princess Anne’s daughter appeared on the first episode of Mike Tindall’s YouTube series, Mike Drop, she became teary-eyed as she discussed life as a mum and her sporting achievements.
She participated in the first episode of her former England rugby star husband’s YouTube channel in January 2023.
During her half-hour-long chat with Mike, Zara, talked about her horse ‘High Kingdom’, on which she won her silver medal at the 2012 Olympics in London.
Zara also scooped two gold medals on her senior debut at the 2005 European Championships and won an individual gold and team silver at the World Equestrian Games in 2006.
She spoke of how happy she was to win a medal, especially for the horse’s owner Trevor Hemmings, who sadly passed away in 2022.
Thinking about past memories, Zara said: “We managed to get him [High Kingdom] to the Olympics, which was incredible. Trev – Trevor Hemmings – has won so many amazing things in his racing career, Grand Nationals and things like that.”
The late Queen’s granddaughter held back the tears as she added: “But to see his face at the Olympics and to get that team medal was amazing.
“And to be able to give something back to him when he had supported me for so long was incredible. I’m going to get emotional.”
Zara and her husband Mike have been married for 13 years, tying the knot at Canongate Kirk on July 30, 2011.
Mike, who has known Zara for over a decade, said to her during the chat, that she always put her owners and horses first sometimes at “the detriment” to herself, adding she trains horses before she trains herself.
The royal couple share three children, daughters Mia and Lena, and a boy, Lucas. Outside of royal and sports engagements, Zara is known to spend as much time as she can as a mum of three at home with her family.
During the interview, the mum of three also opened up about “mum guilt” and about getting back in shape after giving birth to the Tindalls’ three children, Mia, Lena and Lucas.
She told her husband: “I found it hard getting myself back to it. Mentally, you feel guilty as a mother leaving your child to go and do something else.”
Zara met rugby star Mike during their Rugby World Cup-winning campaign in Australia in 2003. Their engagement was announced in December 2010 with Mike having proposed to Zara with “a custom-designed diamond and platinum ring with a divided diamond band”.
The family lives together at Aston Farm, a seven-bedroom farmhouse within the Princess Royal’s Gatcombe Park estate, in Gloucestershire.
The estate is close to King Charles’s Highgrove home – a home known to be the pride and joy of the monarch.
