@chamath posted: “I’ve had every car imaginable: Range Rover, Mercedes, Bentley, Toyota, Ferrari, Volkswagen, Honda. And my Model Y is the absolute best, no close competitor.” But, Musk’s love-in for his Tesla Model Y machines didn’t end there with the boss of the EV marque sharing more success stories.
Another X post that Musk retweeted read: “The new Model Y does everything so well. Best car on the road for the money hands down.” Tesla China claimed the Model Y had achieved the highest possible marks in occupant protection and crash avoidance technologies in the IIHS test.
Tesla China’s Weibo account also claimed the updated version of the electric SUV received a “five-star safety grand slam.” After the news broke, Musk tweeted: “Model Y rated highest in safety”.
The car has now received widespread praise from safety boards across the globe. Top stars have previously been awarded by China Insurance Automotive Safety Index (C-IASI), the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP), as well as NHTSA and Euro NCAP.
The Tesla Model Y has a starting price in the UK of around £44,990, although some higher-end specs can be sold for almost £61,000. The new 2025 Tesla Model Y features a range of new features, including an updated exterior design.
Visually, the model is equipped with a lower front splitter and a light bar at the front and rear. The revised bodywork is inspired by Tesla’s Cybertruck design, while owners can also choose from a range of new wheel options.
Inside, the updated Model Y is equipped with new ambient lighting and a rear 8-inch touchscreen for passengers to control the climate. Tesla’s new stiffer body shell is said to lead to better handling and comfort with a fresh suspension system leading to enhanced bump absorption.
