If you’re worried that you’re not using your eggs in a substantial amount of time and go off before you cook with them, it is possible to keep them for up to a year. The culinary experts at Delish explained that there’s one  storage method that will make some eggs fresh for up to a year.

Eggs are marked with a best before or best by date in the UK, which is a good indication of knowing how long your ingredients will last. By storing eggs in the fridge, the natural aging process slows down, meaning they can be kept for between three to five weeks. However, Delish experts recommend freezing eggs to keep them for longer.

How to make eggs last longer

Delish explained that it’s not efficient to just place a carton of eggs directly into the freezer. Instead, you’ll need to crack them first into a bowl.

Then beat them lightly with a fork, then portion them and decant the mixture into ice cube trays. Delish said: “You can put a quarter cup of whisked egg in each hole. A quarter cup usually equals one large egg.”

It’s also possible to freeze egg yolks and egg whites separately too. Delish continued: “You can also freeze egg whites and egg yolks separately. The yolks need a little bit of a different process.

“Add a little salt or a little sugar, and just beat that in with them before portioning them into the moulds, and that will prevent them from thickening as they freeze.

“With the whites, just whisk them very gently to loosen them up, and then portion into the ice cube trays, just like you would the whole eggs.”

The experts then shared how long the eggs will keep their quality. Delish explained: “Frozen eggs are best used within four months, but they will keep in your freezer for up to a year.”
