An easyJet flight from Cyprus to the UK was forced to make an emergency landing due to reports of smoke on board.
The Airbus A320, which had departed from Paphos bound for Bristol Airport, was diverted to Izmir, Turkey, just over an hour into its journey.
This incident comes in the wake of a devastating plane crash in India that has sent shockwaves around the globe, according to the Mirror.
The Airbus A320 aircraft was cruising at an altitude of 36,000ft when concerns about the smoke were raised.
According to aviation tracker AirLive, the plane suddenly altered its course, heading west towards Turkey before beginning its descent, reports Daily Record.
The pilot swiftly made the emergency decision to divert and land the plane in Turkey.
In a statement, easyJet confirmed: “We can confirm that flight EZY2902 from Paphos to Bristol diverted to Izmir due to a technical issue which resulted in a smoke smell onboard.
“The aircraft landed safely in Izmir and was met by emergency services as a routine and precautionary measure only.
“All passengers disembarked as normal into the terminal and were provided with hotel accommodation and meals where required.
“Passengers will continue to Bristol on a replacement aircraft later today.
“The safety of our customers and crew is easyJet’s highest priority and easyJet operates its fleet of aircraft in strict compliance with all manufacturers’ guidelines.
“We would like to thank customers for their understanding and apologise for the inconvenience caused.”
