Duchess Sophie is set to jet abroad tomorrow to mark an important anniversary overseas. The Duchess of Edinburgh, 60, will visit Bosnia and Herzegovina, as stated in The Royal Diary.
The visit is being held to mark the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide, which saw over 8,000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys tragically murdered. The atrocity, which is believed to have been the worst massacre on European soil since the Second World War, took place during the Bosnian war in July 1995.
The theme for 2025’s remembrance of the event is ‘Remember Yesterday, Act Today’.
This is about the importance of reflective remembrance and how vital it is for proactive action to be taken to safeguard against intolerance and hatred.
It is believed the duchess will not be accompanied by Prince Edward on the emotional visit.
The Royal Diary has not specified how long Sophie will be overseas.
The visit comes after a busy week for the duchess, who attended parts of the French state visit in the UK earlier this week.
This included a state banquet on Tuesday, in which Sophie attended alongside Prince Edward, 61, and fellow senior royals, including King Charles and Queen Camilla.
Duchess Sophie was also spotted in Wimbledon on Monday, where she took a seat in the Royal Box.
