Placed on top of the Duchess of Kent’s wicker coffin, constructed from English willow, in Bridgewater, Somerset, was a wreath of British garden flowers including white roses, symbolising the Yorkshire rose, where she was born.
It also featured several other symbolic flowers chosen by her immediate family, including sprays of rosemary for Remembrance, oak leaves for strength, seasonal September flowers for farewell, jasmin for amiability and achillea representing healing and strength.
Sprigs of yew from the gardens of Hovingham Hall, the Worsley family home, also featured in the wreath as a reflection of eternal life.
