Drivers warned to keep car battery warm to prevent frustrating starting issues this winter

As the temperature decreases, the car’s battery is not able to hold as much energy, meaning there is less power that can be used to start the engine.

Whilst all car batteries are affected by colder temperatures, older models often struggle the most when it comes to starting, mostly due to deterioration caused during the summer.

Many experts suggest that, whilst their life can vary heavily, motorists should generally replace their car battery every three to four years.

Nevertheless, LKQ Euro Car Part’s spokesperson highlighted that motorists can keep their car’s battery in good shape by parking it somewhere warm.

They advised: “To keep your battery warm, make sure you are driving your car regularly and keep it in a garage, if possible, where it is protected from the chill.

“If you are having a hard time starting your car, turn off all the electrics and dip the clutch when you turn the key.”
