Drivers urged to follow game changing tip to cut demisting time by minutes this winter

Internal circulation, sometimes called ‘Recirculate’, can be switched on by pressing the button on the heating controls that shows a car with a curved arrow inside.

As the name suggests, this feature will reuse the air already inside the car, as opposed to fresh air from outside the vehicle.

Typically, this is a good feature to turn on during winter since the heater can quickly increase the temperature inside the car without using as much energy as it would if it was getting air from outside, potentially improving fuel economy as a result.

Nevertheless, @chequanlaosi warned drivers to avoid using recirculation in their car, stating that bringing fresh air into the vehicle will help to demist the screen quickly.

He added: “When driving in winter, turn on the air conditioning, turn on the external circulation and adjust the air outlet mode to ‘demist’ so that the glass [windscreen] will not fog up.”

The TikToker also recommended turning on the air conditioning, which dries any moisture from the air, helping to clear any condensation.

The RAC also recommended that drivers can quickly demist the windows in their car by starting the heater off cold and gradually increasing the temperature over time.

They noted that doing so prevents motorists from overloading the heater with hot air that can take longer to dry out.

Drivers were also advised that, if their car does not have air conditioning, they can speed up the process by opening some of the windows to let the fresh air in.
