Incredible pictures have shown a house teetering dangerously close to the edge of a cliff following a huge crumbling rockfall.

The property, near Sidmouth, Devon, is only 12 metres from the 121-metre drop, reports the BBC.

Dramatic photos show huge sections of the cliffs which have collapsed along the Jurassic Coast.

Close by, debris fell by Jacob’s Ladder which prompted East Devon District Council to urge people to avoid the cliffs.

The authority put out a statement on social media warning people of the danger the cliffs pose – they are prone to rock falls and landslides.

On Facebook, the post read: “Following a cliff fall at Jacob’s Ladder Beach in Sidmouth, we’d like to remind visitors to keep their distance from cliffs along the East Devon coastline.

“Cliff falls are a natural and unpredictable occurrence along the East Devon coast.

“This is because the rock from which the cliffs are formed is soft, and therefore prone to rock falls, and landslides, which can happen at any time.”

Linda Morison commented on the post, writing: “For this fall it’s not just about rock falling onto the beach. Part of the southwest coast path has gone with this fall so now it’s difficult to get between Sidmouth and Ladram. Plus people need to be careful on other parts of the coast path near the cliff edge.”

The South West Coastal Path was already closed following a cliff fall on October 25.

SomersetLive reported that the cliff fall is the “biggest in years”. It said the rock falls are not uncommon in Devon, particularly East Devon where the structure is soft, while Sidmouth has been plagued with many cliff falls in recent years.

Over the years, many acres of coastline have been lost due to natural erosion.

Drone photographer James Loveridge shared images on social media, showing the dramatic rockfall between Sidmouth and Ladram Bay.
