Since the UK isn’t widely known for its hot and sunny summers, many Brits will be looking elsewhere to get to enjoy the hot summer days. One of the most popular holiday destination for Brits is the Spanish coastal town Benidorm, with approximately 800,000 visiting the town every year. Several tourists have praised the town for having everything you might want, from a buzzing nightlife to idyllic sandy beaches.
But if you’re wanting to experience somegthing new, it can be overwhelming to decide on a destination you’d want to go to. To help, one Irish holidaymaker named Éadaoin has shared her top three underrated European travel destinations, saying it’s not as packed with tourists as other destinations.
“Three totally underrated European destinations for a unique trip,” she wrote on her video before she jumped into her list.
1. Kotor, Montenegro
For her first tip, Éadaoin recommended the generally underrated country of Montenegro, located by the Mediterranean sea. She specifically highlighted the smaller town of Kotor.
“A walled town hubbed by mountains with immense views of Kotor Bay,” she wrote on the video.
She went on to show clips from when she visited the town, including a large clock tower, cosy restaurants, and incredible views of the mountains and the harbour with the boats. There were also beaches available to cool down in during especially warm days.
2. Bologna, Italy
Next up, if you want to indulge in as much pasta and gelato that you can bear, she went on to recommend the less popular city of Bologna in Northern Italy.
She went on to describe it as: “A buzzing student town with the most delectable food on offer & fabulous architecture.”
In her video, she was seen walking through food and floral markets, enjoying the unique architechture, and indulging in all the food the city had to offer – which of course included both pasta and gelato.
3. Tarragona, Spain
If you decide that you still want to visit Spain, she went on to recommend the city of Tarragona, located on the eastern coast just a few miles south of Barcelona.
“A beautiful coastal city with Roman history and ruins, a great place for seafood,” Éadaoin wrote on her video as she was seen posing in the middle of a road of colourful buildings.
The city is known as a World Heritage city due to its Roman history, boasting significant ancient structures such as the Tarraco Amphitheatre and the Roman circus. It’s also got several white sandy beaches where you can spend the hottest part of your day on.
Several people soon took to the cooments section of the video to share their thoughts, with many sharing their own experiences.
“Love Tarragona. We had an unbelievable Airbnb here in June. Fabulous city,” one viewer wrote. A second person said: “I’ve been looking for where I want to visit in Montenegro, Kotor looks like it’s making the list!”
A third person shared: “Bologna is on my to-do list.”
