Donald Trump races ahead of Joe Biden as president's approvals sink to record low

Donald Trump has raced ahead of Joe Biden in the 2024 race for the White House with a new poll showing the current president’s approval rating has plunged to an all-time low.

Republican frontrunner Trump leads arch-rival Democrat Biden 47 percent to 43 percent in a hypothetical ballot between only those two candidates and trails 37 percent to 31 percent in a hypothetical ballot with five independent candidates, according to a new Wall Street Journal poll.

The current president’s approval ratings have also taken a significant blow, with more than half (53 percent) saying they have been hurt by his policies, with just under a quarter (23 percent) saying his policies have helped them personally.

This compares to only 37 percent of the poll respondents who said Trump’s policies harmed them and around half who said they were helped by his policies when he was in the White House hot seat.

In addition, Biden’s overall job performance was only backed by 37 percent, which is a record-low for a WSJ poll. In comparison, 61 percent see the current president’s image in an unfavorable light – a record high for the poll.

The 80-year-old also fell behind Trump when it comes to several issues crucial for voters, with a majority of the poll respondents saying Trump was better suited for the economy, inflation, and border security.

The former president also scored ahead of his arch-rival on crime and ability to handle the Israel-Hamas conflict, while Biden only came ahead of Trump on abortion and setting a better tone in politics.

Jason Miller, a Senior Trump Advisor, told Fox News Digital: “Americans were better off financially under President Trump.

“Now, under Crooked Joe Biden, we have runaway inflation, a porous southern border, crime in our streets, and chaos around the globe.”

Tony Fabrizio, a Republican pollster who conducted the survey with Democrat Michael Bocian, said of the results: “If this race is about policy and performance, then Donald Trump has a significant advantage.

“If this race is about temperament and character, things like that, then Biden has an advantage.”

The WSJ poll quizzed 1,500 registered voters between November 29 and December 4, having a margin of error of +/- 2.5 percentage points.

The new poll success for Trump comes with the 77-year-old announcing he does not plan to testify in his $250 million civil fraud trial in New York City later today.

The former president took to the witness stand last month and clashed with the judge on several occasions.

But taking to Truth Social platform on Sunday, he wrote: “I have already testified to everything & have nothing more to say other than this is a complete & total election interference (Biden campaign!) witch hunt.
