Donald Trump has revealed that Charlie Kirk’s wife is “absolutely devastated” by his death. The US President spoke to the former beauty queen following his brutal killing on Wednesday.
Mr Kirk and his 36-year-old wife Erika share a three-year-old daughter and a one-year-old son. The US President shared details of his “long talk” with Mr Kirk’s bereaved wife with reporters. He said: “I spoke to Erika, his wife, and we had a long talk, and she is devastated, she’s absolutely devastated as you can imagine.”
Mrs Kirk is yet to publicly comment on the loss of the 31-year-old husband, who often said raising a family was his “greatest privilege.”
Mr Kirk dropped out of high school before going on to found Turning Point USA — a non-profit he created in 2012.
His outspoken podcast The Charlie Kirk Show and campus tours made him a household name among conservative Gen Z voters.
His evangelical Christian beliefs were closely intertwined with his politics. He argued that there is no true separation of church and state and warned of a “spiritual battle” pitting the West against wokeism, Marxism and Islam.
The conservative activist was a committed family man, once writing that raising his children with his wife was “the greatest privilege” he had.
Mr Kirk was killed while speaking at Utah Valley University, the first stop of his “America Comeback Tour.”
US officials say that a gunman fired a single shot from a rooftop a few hundred yards away from where he was sitting.
The FBI said the suspect is a male of “college age” who used a high-powered bolt action rifle.
Donald Trump said he was “filled with grief and anger at the heinous assassination of Charlie Kirk”, in a video posted on his Truth Social platform. The US President added that his shooting was a “dark moment for America”.
