Donald Trump health update as doctor confirms ‘swelling in his legs | World | News

President Donald Trump has been examined for swelling in his lower legs, his White House press secretary has said. Karoline Leavitt said the concern was “thoroughly evaluated”.

The US President had noticed mild swelling in his lower legs in recent weeks and underwent a routine medical examination “out of an abundance of caution”. Ultrasound tests showed Trump to be suffering from “chronic venus insufficiency, a benign and common condition particularly in individuals over the age of 70.” Leavitt said: “The president underwent a comprehensive examination including diagnostic vascular studies, bilateral lower extremity intravenous doppler ultrasounds were performed and revealed chronic venous insufficiency, a benign and common condition, particularly in individuals over the age of 70.”

She continued that there was no sign of deep vein thrombosis or arterial disease, and that an echo-cardiogram showed normal cardiac structure and function. The White House press secretary insisted that the US President was “in excellent health”, and that bruising on his hands was a result of “frequent handshaking and the use of aspirin.”

Concerns had been raised about Trump’s health after online photos photos showed minor bruising on the back of his hand. The US President had already undergone his annual medical checkup at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in April.

Captain Sean P. Barbabella, the doctor who performed the examination, also said at the time that Trump was “in excellent health”.

In a report, the doctor wrote: “President Trump remains in excellent health, exhibiting robust cardiac, pulmonary, neurological and general physical function.

“His active lifestyle continues to contribute significantly to his well-being. President Trump’s days include participation in multiple meetings, public appearances, press availability and frequent victories in golf events. President Trump exhibits excellent cognitive and physical health and is fully fit to execute the duties of Commander-in-Chief and Head of State.”

Recently the US President sparked fears about his mental health after appearing to refer to himself as an “illegal immigrant” in a bizarre rambling answer to a journalist’s question

The US President made the startling gaffe during an extraordinary press conference after visiting a new detention facility for illegal migrants in Florida.

Dubbed “Alligator Alcatraz,” the migrant facility will be able to hold around 3,000 people. The White House says alligators, crocodiles, and pythons in the surrounding wetlands will prevent detainees from escaping.

The 79-year-old raised eyebrows in a subsequent press conference, where he appeared to become seriously confused and seemingly referred to himself as a “detainee”.
