Donald Trump praised King Charles in a recent interview with Fox News, stating how he’s a “great person” having known him before he ascended the throne. The US President has returned to the White House after his 48-hour stint in the UK on an official state visit which was hosted at Windsor Castle.

Speaking to Fox News, the American president said: “He [King Charles] went through pretty tough stuff, medically, and he’s doing great. But he’s just a great person. I’ve known him for a long time and always said the same thing. He’s a tremendous man who really stepped into a tough position having to follow Queen Elizabeth. She’s got the all time record!” Commenting on the late Queen who Trump had previously met, he added: “To follow that is pretty tough, she was really beloved.”

Donald Trump hailed the so-called special relationship between the US and Britain during the state banquet as he paid a gushing tribute to King Charles during his historic visit, calling it one of the highest honours of his life.

“The bond of kinship and identity between America and the United Kingdom is priceless and eternal. It’s irreplaceable and unbreakable,” Trump said in a speech during the lavish banquet at Windsor Castle.

Referring to the so-called special relationship between the US and Britain, Trump said: “Seen from American eyes, the word special does not begin to do it justice.”

King Charles also highlighted the importance of the special relationship, providing light humour to the occasion.

He said: “Today, however, we celebrate a relationship between our two countries that surely neither Washington nor King George III could possibly have imagined. The ocean may still divide us, but in so many other ways we are now the closest of kin. Mr President, you have spoken of your pride in your British roots. In fact, not only have you set foot on British soil twice in the last two months alone, but I understand that British soil makes for rather splendid golf courses!”
