Donald Trump gushes over ‘radiant’ Princess Kate at state banquet | Royal | News

During his address at the  state banquet at Windsor Castle, the US president fawned over Princess Kate in his speech, telling the room she looked “radiant” and “beautiful”. The American leader also thanked the Royal Family for hosting him and Melania Trump for the second time.

Donald Trump also spoke of his relationship with Prince William. He said: “His Majesty has also raised a remarkable son in His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales. Really amazing. I’ve gotten to know you and you will have unbelievable success in the future.” President Trump then turned his attention to Princess Kate and said: “Melania and I are delighted to visit again with Prince William and to see Her Royal Highness Princess Catherine, so radiant and so healthy, so beautiful. It’s really a great honour, thank you.”

Earlier in the day, Mr Trump appeared to say to Kate, “You’re so beautiful, so beautiful”, as she greeted him alongside William at the start of the historic state visit.

However, at the end of his speech, Trump appeared to make a gaffe by alluding to Kate being the Queen, while Camilla sat opposite the president.

He said: “I offer toast to one of the great friendships, to two great countries, and to His Majesty, King Charles III, a very, very special man and also a very, very special queen,” looking to Kate as he spoke.

For the state banquet, Kate stunned in a couture creation by British designer Phillipa Lepley, with a champagne gold hand-embroidered Chantilly lace evening coat featuring a high collar over a silk crepe gown.

The Princess of Wales was also wearing the Royal Family Order of King Charles III, Royal Family Order of Elizabeth II, Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order and GCVO Star and Sash.

Trump started his day on Wednesday with a formal welcome to Windsor Castle by the King and Queen, followed by a carriage procession through the estate.

He then got to see a display of Royal Collection items relating to the US and, in a private moment, Trump laid a wreath at the tomb of the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Around 200 military musicians then performed a special rendition of Beating Retreat for Trump, the King and Queen and other dignitaries, followed by a flypast of the Red Arrows.

The US president will leave Windsor Castle to travel to Chequers for talks with Sir Keir Starmer, a business reception hosted by Rachel Reeves, the chancellor, and a joint news conference to wrap up the whirlwind 48-hour visit.

He’ll briefly split up from his wife Melania, who is spending the day with the Queen and the Princess of Wales.
